*Honorable mention* Naked Lunch, not just for the subtle lighting, but for the color palate of the sets and costumes.
Dark City is also filled with that kind of subtly and detail and & also atmosphere...
(I was also told this film "The Fall" by Tarsem is worth any list but that may just be in sets and costumes only, not lighting & colors + I've not seen it yet ; otherwise I might have Julie Taymor's "Titus"
or "Curse of the Golden Flower"
on this list as well.*)
